Main road of Milton, MA

This lovely Dutch Colonial built in 1928 in Milton, Mass sits prominently above the road.  The color chosen for this home were taken from this 1928 Moore Paints color card issued the same year the house was built.

Dutch Colonial -the importance of trim colors

Painting the trim a darker color helps frame the house and allows the shape of the gambrell roof to be clearly shown.   The original color scheme did not highlight any of the homes historic details.

Goal & Solution

Goal

The owners wanted to stay in the yellow color range but to use two body colors to enliven the house a bit more.

Solution

For the top dormers and side gables, a warmer, darker yellow tone was chosen.  For the lower level a slightly darker, more tan color was used.  This allowed the house to be viewed as two distinct stories without widely distracting colors.
