English Tudor Revival – Los Angeles
This stunning home is located in Hancock Park in a preservation zone. It was built in 1927 and backs onto the Wiltshire Country Club. It has been the home of many celebrities including Francis Ford Coppola. Initially the house had the all too familiar “Brown & White” color scheme. Built in the classic English Revival style the home features many Old World details such as carved panels showing knights and heraldic crests.
Other ideas on a Classic
What you always see as colors on a particular style of house, is not always all there was. The colors chosen were drawn from an early 1920s paint catalogue that featured several ways to color a Tudor House. There are many schemes, now painted over, that do not feature brown timbers.
Goal & Solution
Goal
The owners wanted something new, but in colors and placement that were appropriate to the historic stately nature of the architecture as well as the classic neighborhood.
Solution
The colors chosen were drawn from an early 1920s paint catalogue that featured several ways to color a Tudor House. The gray/green timbers were highly recommended by the original source as were the tan panels. A period gold was used on the crest. Care was taken in the color placement phase to not have this area look too busy. The new timber color now matches the original slate roof.
